Ever-Changing Weather: Prepping Your Skin for Rainy Season
The rainy season has officially arrived. Ladies, don't get complacent and neglect your facial skincare as usual — we have to warn you that the rainy season makes it easy for skin to deteriorate. The pollution in rainwater, contaminated with germs, dust particles and various chemicals, means the skin has to contend with oiliness and breakouts too. When the weather changes, your skin condition inevitably changes with it. So when our skin comes into contact with rainwater, it gets damaged without us even realizing it, and it still needs consistent attention and care. Today we have ways to keep your skin gorgeous and healthy throughout this rainy season. Try following along — these are simple methods that will definitely keep your skin glowing all rainy season long.
Keep Your Skin Clean
Don't forget that clean skin is the starting point of good skin. In the rainy season, humidity levels are higher than usual, contributing to oilier skin, along with sweat excreted onto the skin that causes clogging — a cause of the breakouts that follow. That's why cleansing the skin is essential and must be done correctly. Use a facial cleanser suited to your own skin type and remove all traces of makeup thoroughly to help reduce the chance of breakouts. Wash your face thoroughly morning and evening, consistently and regularly. If you get caught in the rain and come home wet, wash your face clean. Humid air allows dust particles to cling to the facial skin more heavily and for longer; if left to accumulate on the skin for a long time, they will clog the pores and cause acne.
Sunscreen Is Still Essential
Even though the sky is dark and overcast with little sunshine, that doesn't mean there are no UV rays out there damaging our skin. Applying sunscreen is therefore essential for the skin no matter the season — especially in unpredictable weather, it's best to protect your skin and keep it safe. Choose a sunscreen with SPF50+ or higher, and never below 30, in a waterproof formula — it should suit this rainy season perfectly, nourishing and protecting in a single step, with no need for multiple layers that leave the skin sticky, reducing clogging of the skin. It's convenient and saves time, while further reducing the chance of clogged pores.
Boost Your Skin's Hydration
Even though the rain cools the air and brings extra humidity, that doesn't mean our skin absorbs that moisture from the air. We should keep our skin well hydrated at all times, no matter the season, because hydrated skin that isn't rough or parched is healthy skin. Many people don't drink much water when it's raining, unlike when the weather is hot — but in reality, even during the rainy season our skin can become rough, dry and dehydrated. That's why applying moisturizer to boost the skin's hydration acts as a protective barrier, keeping the skin strong and making breakouts less likely.
Use a Cleansing Product
Hot, humid weather is a major culprit behind oily, dull skin — it also makes breakouts more likely and can leave the skin clogged. So before washing your face, use a cleansing product to clean the skin first — a helper that gets the facial skin even cleaner. Using a toner after washing your face is another step that removes any dirt still lingering on the face for a thorough clean. You should also choose a cleansing product format that suits your individual skin type. Whatever your skin type, simply choose products suited to your skin, and it will receive the full care it deserves.
Exfoliate Regularly
Even without sunshine, our facial skin can become dull. If the skin loses its moisture, it becomes dull and loses its glow. So during the rainy season, don't forget to exfoliate your face — it should be done at least once a week. This helps slough off dead skin cells and reveal new skin, while also preventing the skin from becoming clogged. Shedding old skin cells reveals new skin that is brighter and smoother than before. When it comes to exfoliating, we recommend using skincare containing AHA, BHA or PHA instead of scrubbing the skin directly, because scrubbing disturbs the facial skin too much and can also easily cause irritation.
Skip Makeup or Keep It Light
Rain makes the air humid and your facial skin may not be used to the conditions. Before applying makeup, besides using moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated at all times, in this rainy season we recommend light, natural-looking makeup: apply moisturizer, apply sunscreen and set with loose powder — or if your skin is already in great shape, you can simply apply powder foundation and head out the door, adding a touch of nourishing lip balm. And when you get home, you should promptly remove your makeup and wash your face thoroughly right away. This will keep your skin clean, keep breakouts at bay, and give you healthy-looking skin throughout this rainy season for sure.
Caring for your skin during periods when the weather changes frequently is important and shouldn't be overlooked. Any kind of weather has the potential to harm your skin, so if you want beautiful, healthy skin in every season, you should adapt your skincare routine to match the weather. Beyond that, take care of other internal factors too, such as eating nutritious food, getting enough restful sleep, and exercising, for strong overall health that will contribute to even better skin as well.
